About the Job
In support of the primary Portfolio Managers in the Energy / Oil & Gas E&P team, associates perform financial analysis and prepare underwriting documents to support complex multimillion-dollar credit requests. Location: Houston, TX

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepare thorough credit underwriting on E&P clients identifying current and historical financial profiles, asset & reserve profiles, industry concerns, market share trends, financial trends and other pertinent underwriting issues.
  • Model future financial performance of prospective clients, including down-side scenarios, incorporating current reserve engineering data and the bank’s oil & gas pricing estimates.
  • Support Portfolio Managers with approval documentation regarding lending commitments, amendments and waivers to credit facilities, as well as monitor the financial performance of portfolio companies.
  • Assist in the documentation and closing of credit facilities.
  • Obtain and participate in the analysis of all necessary documentation including, all notes, pledges and collateral and assures that the documentation correctly reflects rates, terms and special conditions.
  • Monitor accounts to determine liquidity, earnings trends, management capability and other essential information to secure the bank's position to minimize potential losses.
  • Identifies potential problem accounts and works to improve the bank's position in undesirable situations.
  • Conducts periodic site visits to assess management, business conditions and build rapport with accounts.
  • Prepare white papers on assigned industry segments.
  • Attend bank meetings and interact with members of client management teams on a regular basis.
  • Maintains client and prospect databases.
  • Assists Investment Bankers/Relationship Managers in structuring transactions.

Required Qualifications
  • BA in finance, business, economics or related field.
  • Competence in Financial Modeling, demonstrated by:
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Competency with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, Word, and Powerpoint)
  • Good accounting knowledge
  • Unique analysis
  • View on optimal capital structure
  • Cash flow modeling
  • Strong data gathering skills demonstrated through research, including:
    • How to use it
    • Where to find it
  • Leverage prior deal knowledge


Important Skill Sets:
  • Oil & Gas industry knowledge
  • Ability to evaluate different business models
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage organizational expertise.
  • Challenge assertions in offering memorandum
  • Investigate information and comprehend the meaning of the data gathered
  • Strong understanding of basic financial metrics
  • Analysis in support of due diligence
  • Knowledge of collateral valuation
  • Ability to identify relevant information
  • Recognize and understand interdependency of data


Product Knowledge
Commercial banking product appreciation, cash management, FX, derivatives, etc.
