Job Description

This position will require extensive SAP Procurement, Supply Chain Management and Inventory Management experience to manage a cross border team in redefining business processes, reconfiguring the processes within SAP and integrating the processes with a 3rd party Warehouse Management tool. The selected candidate will be located in Kansas City, MO with occasional travel to Monterrey, MX, Shreveport, LA and other KCS sites. This position will review projects with personnel and provide appropriate leadership to the team members; communicate project status to director on a periodic and proactive basis. In addition, the selected candidates will manage customer communications on projects and request prioritization, and enforce adherence to standards including but not limited to naming conventions, technical practices and development methodology. This position is also responsible for leading IT resources that support various SAP modules as well as interfaces and add on applications

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field required
  • 7+ years of experience with application development in Information Technology
  • 3+ years of supervision or management of software development professionals
  • 7+ years of experience with SAP application support and development support experience with SAP.
  • ITIL Certification preferred
  • Advanced computer skills, specifically MS Excel, MS Access and MS Office
  • Software development and maintenance life cycle and best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and foster strong relationships with clients and team members
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks at any one time while maintaining high quality standards
  • Ability to manage a team of 2 - 4 people
  • Preferred knowledge of Microsoft Project, Railroad business operational knowledge, TFS, Clarity, Microsoft Project, Service Now
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions


  • Extensive knowledge of SCM and warehouse management/inventory management business processes
  • Experience in managing application development teams
  • Expertise in business requirement development and documentation
  • Experience in design/configuration of SAP modules related to materials management and warehouse/inventory management
  • Experience in data cleansing, data governance and data archiving
  • Experience in data configuration, data migration and data interface(s
  • Design experience as well as implementation experience
  • Experience in developing systems documentation, business process procedures & workflows
  • “Lean”/Kaizan/Six-Sigma experience
    • Leadership experience in transformational Inventory Management initiative
  • Experience in new systems implementation
  • Experience in integration of 3rd party systems to SAP


  • Manages production support and small enhancement activities in accordance with ITIL processes.
  • Provides SDLC processes for application development and support team for all work (projects and non-project activities) and ensures SDLC processes, tools, and techniques are used by team members.
  • Ensures that assigned projects (capital and op-ex) are completed on-time, on-budget, and with high quality.
  • Collaborates with project managers to provide resources to other projects as needed.
  • Establishes metrics to be used within the Business Solutions Delivery department.
  • Mentors, coaches, and develops assigned personnel, including cross border team in Mexico and along the KCS system
  • Lead implementation and testing efforts
