Job Description

There is regular, full-time Electrician III position at The Jackson Laboratory, Sacramento facility. Electrician position is responsible for work of complex difficulty in operation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of facility electrical systems that include primary (high voltage) and secondary circuits, normal and emergency power distribution, UPS, diesel generator systems, lighting systems, fire protection systems, security systems, and audio-visual systems.  Assists in the repair of building automation systems, HVAC systems, process equipment systems, building maintenance, high pressure & low pressure steam boilers, water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hot & cold water systems, pumping systems, steam systems, steam traps, PRV stations, water treatment, animal drinking water & domestic water systems, and other tasks as they apply to demands of the department.

Electrician III -    Perform work with greater degree of self-sufficiency and independence. Be a mentor, provide guidance to train lower level technicians, and manage projects with minimal guidance. Years of experience > 10 years.

Job Requirements

Operates, maintains, installs, repairs, replaces, troubleshoots, test and responds to routine and emergency service calls as they relate to Electrical Systems and its components (primary and secondary circuits, normal and emergency power distribution, UPS, diesel generator systems, lighting systems, fire protection systems, security systems, and audio-visual systems).  Perform Preventive Maintenance inspections and services on Electrical Systems according to established schedule and provide input for upgrade or modification.  Percentage of time 40%.

Assists in the design, installation and commissioning of new and modification of existing Electrical Systems and its components.  Percentage of time 20%. 

Assists with maintenance and operation of Building Automation System, Fire Protection Systems, Security Systems, HVAC Systems, Lighting, Process Equipment Systems (autoclaves, tunnel washers, bottle washers, and rack washers), Building Maintenance, Utility Plant Systems (high pressure & low pressure steam boilers, water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hot & cold water systems, pumping systems, steam systems, steam traps, PRV stations, water treatment, animal drinking water & domestic water systems) and other tasks as they apply to demands of the department.  Monitors and responds to local alarm systems on HVAC, Fire and Security systems.  Acts as primary facility security, maintenance and operations response personnel as needed.  Provides immediate diagnosis and remedy to plant issues and/or contacts formal on-call maintenance personnel and/or contractors for assistance.  Performs monitoring and operations of facility and utility plant operations at maximum efficiency and reliability while meeting all regulatory requirements.  Percentage of time 20%. 

Provides training and mentoring to others in the operation and repair of Electrical Systems and its components.  Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Provides general clean up, housekeeping, and maintenance of machinery & electrical spaces.  Percentage of time 10%.

Utilizes CMMS to track and preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and create work orders.  Provide detailed written and oral reports / presentation on equipment utilization, round sheets, records, and daily pass down logs for internal use along with state and federal agencies.  Develops new and improves existing SOPs to effectively document processes and procedures.  Percentage of time 10%.Required Experience

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college in electrical or electrical engineering technology, or related field. Trade licenses & certifications will be held in high regard.

Knowledge of electrical systems including planning additions or modifications.

Ability to read schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operations, control drawings and control loops.

Understanding of Electrical Systems, Fire Protection Systems, Security Systems, Lighting, and Building Maintenance.

Ability to diagnose and repair electrical equipment & components, programmable Building Automation Controls and monitoring systems. 

Ability to prepare engineering documents, specifications and cost estimates for projects.

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
