DIRECTOR OF NURSING / DON / REGISTERED NURSE / RN


DIRECTOR OF NURSING SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing (DON) shall be a Registered Nurse who is responsible for the overall direction of home health clinical and caregiving services.  The DON will have overall responsibility for the quality, and adequacy of services provided and supervision of staff.  The DON establishes,  implements and evaluates goals and objectives for home health services that meet and promote the standards of quality. 

DON / RN ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Makes the initial evaluation visit and regularly reevaluates the client’s care needs.  
  • Prepares clinical and progress notes and summaries of care.
  • Informs the physician and other personnel of changes in the patient’s condition and needs.
  • Counsels the client and family in meeting nursing and related needs.
  • Assists in the development of organization goals.  Develops, recommends, and administers agency policies and procedures.
  • Supervises, educates and coaches other clinical and caregiving field personnel.
  • Plans and implements in-service and training programs.  BrightStar provides CE classes
  • Conducts performance evaluation of clinical and care-giving staff.
  • Promotes home health referrals in the health care community.
  • Compliance with Tittle 22 and Joint Commission home health regulations

Director of Nursing / DON / Registered Nurse / RN



DON / RN EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Nurse with current unencumbered licensure to practice  in California.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of clinical experience within the last five years in a home health agency, primary care clinic, or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity. 
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct staff.
  • Proven ability to build quality and implement improvements within the operation.
  • Case management skills are a plus
  • Policy development is a plus
