Purpose: Directly responsible for the standards, design, planning, management, and execution of all activities related to instrument, controls, and automation solutions for production and facility equipment.
Key Result Areas (KRA’s):
1. Direct Management of the Process Controls Engineering Technician
Overall responsibility for training and technical supervision of the Process Controls Engineering Technician including but not limited to process PLC installation & programming, maintenance, support, upgrades to existing control systems, and PSM efforts. Accountability
Provide leadership and direction to the Process Controls Engineering Technician to assure safe and proper procedures are being followed, preventative maintenance efforts are complete and effective, and all records are adequate and up to date. Review, approve, and edit timecards on a bi-weekly basis.
2. Engineering Support
Provide 24/7 engineering support to the prAutomoduction facility, engineering group, R&D department, accounting, business management team, and to the maintenance department. Research new technologies and procedures relative to automation and controls that could be utilized to improve processes. Analyze, compare and select equipment best suited for various applications. Coordinate with Operations to identify requirements for process controls, develop control strategies and implement. Support the design, specification, installation, startup and validation of process control systems, electrical systems and instrumentation for capital and upgrade projects. Ensure site specifications, standards and compliance to expectations are met and that good engineering practices are followed. This position has direct responsibility for the operations and development of the electrical systems and the process control systems. Accountability

System design and safety integrated systems for new or existing processes are a necessary element to accommodate growth. Provides support in the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (E, I, &C) areas for all members on the engineering team as required by each project.
3. Engineering Support for Maintenance
Provide engineering expertise and technical guidance to maintenance to perform repairs, design changes, or other corrections as a result of troubleshooting or performance evaluation. Troubleshoot control and instrumentation systems to resolve equipment or process issues. Responsible for oversight of control system critical spare parts Identify continuous improvement activities relative to plant automation control systems in support areas and champion solutions aligned with Site and Department metrics, Business Objectives and Strategy. Identify areas of opportunity to improve equipment and component reliability. Develop calibration, preventative maintenance and additional procedures in support of systems and instruments installed.Accountability
System design or alterations are necessary for change and growth. Provide support to all on the maintenance team as required by task in the areas of E, I, &C. Participate in the development and continued improvements to the preventative maintenance program.
4. Process Safety Management Support
Implementation and / or maintenance of required PSM documentation as required for safe operating systems.Accountability
PSM compliance is required for the majority of work associated with the company, and will be sustained through group efforts with direction and support from the PSM Manager, EHS&S Manager, Engineering Manager, and the Engineering team.
5. Electrical Safety
Support and continued improvements to the “Electrical Safe Work Practices” at the company.
