Job Description

The primary focus is on the design, development, and delivery through classroom instruction of effective Health Information Technology/Health Information Systems courses for a diverse student population. The incumbent must have extensive knowledge of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)/Electronic Health Record (EHR) and its applications and workflows. The incumbent will function as the EHR/EMR functionality, feature, and usability expert for the department. The incumbent must be able to effectively deliver instruction to students through classroom and distance learning, and provide support in the design of HIT curricula and materials (to include health information system usage and workflows) to support the HIT programs. The incumbent will provide support to the following initiatives, which include, but are not limited to: ONC competencies for health IT Workforce Roles, NVCC HIT Career Studies Certificate, and Support Bellevue Grant for HIT degree preparation.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design, development, and delivery through classroom instruction of effective Health Information Technology/Health Information Systems courses for a diverse student population. Extensive knowledge of the Electronic Medical Record/Electronic Health Record and its applications and workflows. • Function as the EHR/EMR functionality, feature, and usability expert for HIM/HIT. • Effectively deliver instruction to students through classroom and distance learning. • Provide support in the design of HIT curricula and materials (to include health information system usage and workflows) to support the HIT programs. • Provide support to: ONC competencies for health IT Workforce Roles, NVCC HIT Career Studies Certificate, Bellevue Grant for HIT degree preparation and HIPAA privacy and security initiatives. • Facilitate AHIMA Certification in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS), HIMSS Certification in Healthcare Information Management Systems (CAHIMS) and Certified Professional in Healthcare Information Management Systems (CPHIMS).

Job Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, or Health Informatics related field with CAHIMS, CPHIMS and/or CHTS and at least 5 years of experience Recent experience in coordination and delivery of health information systems to providers in operational healthcare systems to include experience working on a clinical implementation systems project • Demonstrated experience teaching in the use of new technologies and technical concepts • 5-7+ years of recent clinical experience and/or educator, instructional design or instructor experience. • 5-7+ years of experience with face-to-face or online classroom instruction to a variety of adult learner groups • Evidence of effective collaboration with other collegiate stakeholders or greater healthcare community. • On-line teaching certifications (e.g. Quality Matters or similar). • Experience developing web-based training for distance learning, and using learning management systems • Experience using, teaching, and/or implementing Cerner and /or Epic clinical applications • Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security Exhibit a strong commitment to the health information management field through professional certification by either HIMSS (CPHIMS or CAHIMS) or AHIMA (CHTS, RHIA or RHIT), or both.
