Volunteers of America is accepting applications for their Internal Float Team.

We are looking for a qualified Occupational Therapist to join the team and assist our facilities with staffing needs.


The float team travels to all of our metro area facilities and helps staff our Long Term Care facilities. The facilities include:  Maplewood, Edina, and Anoka.  This position is On Call with the potential to pick up 40 hours a week.  Our internal float team employees self schedule based on facility needs.

OBJECTIVE:  To provide leadership of Occupational therapy services and education.  The occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients, communicates with families, physicians and other health team members and maintains appropriate documentation of services including MDS responsibilities complying with State and Federal regulations.  Participates in on-going facility meetings and conducts in-service and training for facility staff on ongoing basis in restorative and maintenance techniques.


  1. Assesses the rehabilitation needs of the residents and informs the physicians and nursing staff of those needs within twenty-four (24) hours of physician referral.
  2. Plans a total program of occupational therapy for the residents in coordination with the facility staff, in order to help the residents achieve and maintain their potential abilities and independence in activities of daily living.  Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval for services from referring physician and third party payors.
  3. Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the occupational therapy programs offered by the department.
  4. Provides physical therapy to the residents upon the written order of the attending physician.
  5. Prepares and maintains treatment records with progress notes and observations, including:
    1. Physician’s orders.
    2. Objectives of treatments.
    3. Plan of care.
    4. Treatment procedure(s) and baseline clinical data.
    5. Evaluation of progress and resident’s response to treatment.
    6. Other pertinent information as required by facility’s policies.



  1. Graduate from a occupational therapy curriculum  and is currently licensed as a Occupational Therapist.
  2. A minimum of two year experience as a occuptaional therapist in a long-term care facility.
  3. Able to understand medical terminology and how it applies to  therapy, to communicate with residents, staff, physicians, and to prepare meaningful reports.
  4. Be willing to work Saturdays, and to travel to other Volunteers of America Care Centers.
