Job Description

Risk Specialist

This position will work with the Presence Long Term Care facilities across the System

SUMMARY

Assists with review and analysis of reports and data to identify trends and patterns in actual or potential patient, employee, and visitor incidents or injuries. Coordinates follow-up activities necessary to reduce frequency of risk-related incidents and limit liability. Leads to work to proactively identify gaps in design/process and to resolve adverse outcomes and claims against the System and applicable Ministry. Assists System Lead, Risk, in the development of and implementation plans for policies and procedures related to Risk Management. Works with Ministry leadership, and employees, to achieve the hospital goals and objectives. Coordinates the Patient Relations and Patient Grievance process in collaboration with all department managers, directors, and senior leadership.

-Excellent human relations and oral/written communication ability and problem-solving skills required

-Must have the ability to easily adapt to new programs and technology

-Able to travel to ministries and other sites as needed (50% travel). Have automobile and active driver's license.

Education and/or Experience

-RN and/or 7 years of progressive Risk Management experience in healthcare or clinical related setting required

-Bachelors in Science or health care related field preferred

-Knowledge of medico-legal matters and risk management programs with 3-5 years progressively more responsible, related experience in Patient Safety

-Ambulatory/LTC/HC experience 3-5 years required and/ or desired

-Drivers license required

Computer Skills

Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel & Outlook)

Knowledge of Meditech & Midas helpful

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Risk Management Certification preferred. Expectation of position is to obtain Risk Management Certification within 5 years of accepting the position.
