SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has direct distribution responsibility for all Home Delivery, Single Copy or HD/SC combination and reports to the Regional Director or Distribution Director.  Responsibility will be for a defined geographic area (potentially multi-state), comprised of up to 50,000 daily & Sunday distribution, annual revenue of $5 Million and expenses of $2.5 Million. This includes home delivered, single copy, blue chip, education, and non-daily circulation from USCP and USAT along with a number of third party distribution partner contracts.

This position oversees contract compliance of Independent contractors. Responsible for implementing strategies to support home delivery and single copy revenue, volume growth and retention, while managing to budgeted expenses for all major aspects of distribution and service performance for the USCP and USAT Gannett properties, based on industry and market trends.

Manage financial and distribution performance metrics for their defined geographic area.  Provide input to budgets and capital submissions for the area. Ensure the efficient distribution of products through initiation of route restructuring, consolidation, splits or other means designed to maximize volumes while limiting expense exposure.

This position will insure that contractors adhere to their contractual obligation for customer service, complaint resolution, reporting, compliance of all local, state and federal laws. Overall responsibility for insuring product position, rack sales effectiveness, point of purchase material application, timely reporting, accounts receivable and adjustments. Manage product integrity (ABC/insert verification), field verification of TMC, bonding, and letters of credit. Managing drop times, delivery sequence/schedules, and contingency planning.

This position promotes customer satisfaction, and is responsible for ensuring that SOP's/contracts for customer service, personnel safety, complaint resolution, reporting, compliance of all local, state, federal, and Gannett regulations and policies are established and implemented consistently across the region in the delivery area.

This position has overall responsibility for executing and ensuring accuracy of all zoned product distribution.  This position will be involved in the hiring of the Operations Coordinators  and the recruitment of / negotiation with independent contractors.  This position will work with the Senior Distribution Director and/or Distribution Directors in determining whether to extend or terminate contractual relationships with distribution contractors. Must possess strong leadership, communication and motivational skills and provide consistent guidance to their employees. Identify regional best practices and assist in the implementation across the other regions.

­EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Undergraduate degree in business or a related field plus at least 5-years experience in distribution management

 KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Solid working knowledge in operations, systems, and sales, with basic ability for sound financial decision making.

Ability to work as part of a team, with minimal daily supervision and high degree of self-motivation.

Strong PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong leadership ability to lead a mixed workforce of employees and independent contractors spread out across several different markets.

Ability to problem solve, resolve issues & complaints, demonstrate sound reasoning, exercise judgment, and make decisions.

This position requires an individual who is able to manage a 7-day-a-week distribution operation.  The individual must be available at any time as the situation warrants. This individual must be flexible to travel at any time.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Manage distribution of all GPS products, including driving revenue, volume growth and retention. Manages activities of District Managers and oversee contract compliance of independent contractors. Execute strategies for reaching and exceeding the budgeted volume, expense, and profit goals. Identify market trends, big sales opportunities and events in order to maximize single copy sales.

Manage financial metrics and processes, including account receivables/aging, shrink, contract integrity audits, returns controls, rate integrity, subsidy management, reporting, bonding compliance & LOC.

Manage product flow as it relates to timely delivery, positioning / merchandising, and product integrity / zoning.

Manage relationships with local publishers, retailers, vendors and independent contractors in order to ensure customer service, leverage readership and sales opportunities, manage costs, and maintain distribution operations.

Develop, train and coach the distribution team to meet and exceed sales and financial goals.  Design and facilitate appropriate training programs for personnel to include:  Best Practices, Operational Effectiveness, skill enhancement, succession planning, process improvement, communication and motivation for all team members.
