JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking talented Bank Application Technical Architect for our San Antonio, TX facility. 

PURPOSE OF JOB

The Technical Architect at USAA sets technology direction, ensures project implementation compliance, and utilizes technology research to innovate, integrate, and manage technology solutions to enable USAA as the Provider of Choice for the Military Community. This job ensures that technical strategy and direction for all of USAA is identified, integrated across multiple business functions and technical domains, and aligned to USAA's mission, brand pillars and strategic priorities. 

JOB DUTIES

The role of Project or Program Architect (Approximately 60% of the job)

  • Utilizes expert level knowledge of people, process, and technologies in the context of the business, to conceptualize technical complexity into usable, large-scale architectures that are compliant with established standards. Provides architectural solutions/designs to project execution teams for implementation.
  • Advises IT and the Business at all levels on matters of impact from solution architecture decisions.
  • Contributes to business requirements of strategic programs from a broad understanding of a business area and its technology portfolio.
  • Ensures architecture compliance of technology solutions by conducting design/governance reviews.
  • Drafts, evaluates, approves, and rejects architectural waivers using risk assessment methodologies.
  • Influences and oversees research projects that contribute to disruptive innovation. Maintains personal availability for troubleshooting and participates in on-call leadership rotations responsible for return to service.

Domain Architect (Approximately 40% of role):

  • Sets technology architectural direction, and delivers technology architectural assessments recommending (replace, retire, maintain) strategies. Sets and documents technology architecture standards.
  • Provides leadership and accountability for technical architecture as it relates to cross-functional business strategies and multiple technical domains.
  • Develops and maintains traceability from corporate strategies all the way through their domain components and application roadmaps.
  • Facilitates IT and business community interaction to shape architecture solutions and domain direction. Performs professional and technical mentorship for 2 or 3 non-architect IT resources in the Domain they support.
  • Participates in USAA, and industry level influence for their technical domain expertise.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree in an IT related program of study OR 6+ years of work experience in the Information Technology field.
  • 7 years related work experience in the Information Technology field (in addition to those required in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of related work experience at the Lead level in IT.
  • Extensive experience in technology application development and/or infrastructure and operational implementation.
  • Advanced depth in a minimum of one domain of technology / application portfolio.
  • Experienced managing and supporting Banking Application Software in any of the following domains supporting the banking industry, Credit Card, Real Estate, Deposits, or Consumer Lending.
  • Experienced and comprehensive view of the payments and transaction processing environment and ecosystem.

Preferred

  • Industry-based IT Architecture certification (preferably The Open Groupos - Master Architect certification). This certification is preferred within 3 years of hire into the USAA IT Technical Architect position.
