Each patient room is private, and the uniquely designed "clover leaf" patient care units consist of 60 beds per floor. The Emergency Department is sized to accommodate up to 60,000 visits per year.

CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST - OPEN HEART


 
As an advanced practice Registered Nurse promotes nursing care of service specific patients through direct and indirect patient/family contact, collaboration with the health team, consultation, education, and research. 
 
Functions as an independent/interdependent teacher and practitioner in applying specific, relevant theories and in-depth knowledge of Nursing to care of patients; Synthesizes concepts and research methods into the practice of nursing; Processes refined technical skills as well developed problem-solving abilities.
 
1.      Develops and provides formal education programs to train staff to function competently according to selected patient population(s)
2.      Provides on-going education and resources to staff to support continual clinical development
3.      Actively participates on assigned committees and teams
4.      Serves as a leader, consultant or liaison for assigned nursing specialty
5.      Service as a clinical nursing resource for staff, patients, families and physicians
6.      Collaborates with service line leadership
7.      Facilitates “Best” nursing practice standards of care
8.      Interacts with groups both internal and external to the organization
9.      Assists with the development of clinical policies and procedures
10. Supports the Collaborative practice model of nursing practice
11.      May at times be asked to assist with direct patient care
12.      Will work one-on-one with staff to develop skills and competency
13.      Will assume oversight responsibility for new nursing hires during probationary period; this will also apply to potential new graduate or transitional nurses within the service line
14.      May be asked to assume limited interim direct management functions
15.      Will serve as the primary liaison with the nursing education department
16.      May assist with new equipment or supply evaluation processes

The following qualifications are the minimum necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be considered.

  1. Education and formal training: Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing, Master’s Degree in Nursing with evidence of a series of courses that reflect clinical specialty. 
  2. Current licensure as an Registered Nurse in Florida
  3. Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Florida
  4. Work experience: Minimum of four years of clinical practice in area of specialization within previous six years.  Previous CNS experience preferred.
  5. Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.

•   Ability to interface and maintain effective working relationships with all levels;

•   Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;

•   Ability to gain physician respect and cooperation;

•   Ability to demonstrate innovation and understanding of educational program development;

•   Demonstrated computer knowledge and proficiency;

•   Strong interpersonal skills; and

•   Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
