POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting the pharmacists in pharmaceutical preparation, distribution and the record keeping functions in the delivery of pharmaceutical supplies to patients of all ages in accordance with department policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS: A. EDUCATION: 1. High School graduate or GED equivalent is required.1. Technician training program completion is preferred. B. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years previous experience in hospital pharmacy setting is preferred. Experience in community or home health settings is preferred. C. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:Pharmacy Technician Board Certification is required. A. EQUIPMENT/SKILLS:1. Must have fundamental knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, computer order system, and medication abbreviations normally acquired through previous experience. 2. Must be able to use various office/pharmacy equipment including: Medication repackaging machine, fax machine, IV solution compounder, TPN compounder all may be used to complete routine tasks. Use of horizontal carosel for storage and retrieval of medications in pharmacy.3. Requires excellent mathematical skills required for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceuticals; possess a basic understanding of hospital pharmacy drug distribution systems including unit dose, IV additive and floor stock distribution methods. 4. Critical to minimizing adverse outcome is attention to detail in pulling, sorting, placing, compounding and handling medications. Errors not caught by Pharmacists or RN’s can have hazardous outcomes. B. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Requires intermittent standing, walking and sitting, does some reaching, lifting, stooping and moves light equipment and materials, uses keyboard extensively. 2. Must be able to lift equivalent weight of a case of IV solutions, 30 - 35 lb. 3. Works in well lighted, air-conditioned surroundings.4. May be exposed to hazardous materials including but not limited to bulk chemicals, carcinogens, corrosives, flammable materials, irritants, allergens and poisons.
