Business Services Collections Specialist

Job Description

The Business Services Collections Specialist is to assist the Collections Manager, Facilities and CBO of outstanding balances to reduce the private pay receivables. Will monitor private pay accounts that are assigned for collection, including calls and/or correspondence in a fast paced goal oriented collections department.


This position will perform Collection Functions in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations while ensuring sustained financial integrity and fiscal guidance.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

•Calling on delinquent private pay accounts.

•Prepare write offs as necessary and submit to Collections Manager.

•Works directly with Collections Manager of Business Services and collections team to ensure timely collection of private pay receivables.

•Assist the Business Services Department during Statement Run.

•Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, Workman’s Compensation, Commercial Insurances and/or Private Payors.

•Must be able to perform account extensive follow up and notify the Collections Manager of problem accounts.

•Must be able to communicative effectively and professionally when performing collection calls.

•Effectively deal with various professionals in connection with day to day needs of the job.

•Copying, faxing, mailing and filing.

•Other duties as assigned.



Job Requirements



•High school diploma or GED required or equivalent related work experience.

•At least 1-3 years of high volume collections experience or equivalent customer service call center experience.

•Knowledge of billing practices within the Health Care Industry.

•Must be current with industry regulations and compliance issues.

•Ability to read an accounts receivable aging.

•Able to operate Collections Software, and be proficient with spreadsheet and word processing applications.

•Demonstrate intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, Internet and Intranet navigation.

•Effective verbal and written English communication skills.

•Ability to communicate and work well within a team environment in support of company objectives.

•Customer service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure and handle complaints/objections and resolve conflicts.

•Must possess the ability to work in a busy environment and meet strict deadlines.

•Ability to deal with new tasks without the benefit of written procedures.

•Approachable, flexible and adaptable to change.


Physical and Sensory Requirements:

•Moderate physical activity:

oRequires handling of average-weight objects up to twenty five (25) pounds.

oStanding, sitting and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

oBending and/or stooping for more than one (1) hour at a time.

•Function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and vendors.
