Senior Product Development Engineer (Research & Development)


Bartlett, TN - The Sr. Product Development Engineer will be responsible for the design, development and management of new and existing ENT products.  The incumbent will act as a technical consultant as needed to other departments, customers, and sales people. EOE M/F/D/V



* Design and develop new products.

* Translate user requirements into product specifications.

* Prepare product specifications including materials, functional characteristics, processes, quality control procedures, etc.

* Collect and maintain applicable technical, clinical, and commercial literature relating to the background and development of specific products or procedures.

* Establish appropriate test protocols for product verifications and validations. 

* Initiate and review applicable product testing and product evaluations.

* Plan and schedule all assigned projects.

* Keep abreast of new developments, materials, or processes which can be used to improve the function or production of products.

* Consult with upstream marketing and clinicians, when necessary, to facilitate proper design of new or modified products.

* Initiate the preparation of prototype and production prints, and acts as a consultant during their preparation.

* Consult with other departments such as purchasing, manufacturing, and upstream marketing to obtain services or information pertinent to functional needs.

* Manage, direct and support vendors involved in product development and ongoing production.

* Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

* Investigate critical product/process engineering problems on demand.

* Help prepare and act as a consultant to marketing on technical brochures, training programs, and technical presentations to customers or the sales force.

* Follow GMP, FDA, ISO, and Gyrus operational procedures.

* Work directly with manufacturing engineering in fabrication of prototypes for new products. 

* Work with manufacturing personnel in implementation of new products. 

* Work with marketing on design of new products.

* Perform other related duties as assigned.



(ONLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED)

* A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required or relevant experience is required, A Master’s Degree is preferred. 

* Prefer at least five (5) years of product development experience in medical product development and/or electro mechanical device development. 

* Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

* Must be proficient in the design of parts utilizing injection and insert molding, extrusion, stamping, wire EDM and CNC machining.

* Must have understanding of the design, development, and tolerancing of complex systems.

* Experience in the design of durable, complex medical products with continued exposure to the autoclave environment is a plus.

* Proficient in the design of test fixtures for the qualification, performance and verification / validation tests of new and existing products will be required.

* Must have experience in the design and development of products subject to domestic and international standards (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC60601 etc).

* Must be comfortable leading multidisciplinary teams in bringing a project from conception through market release and follow a project from inception to full production.

* Must be proficient in the use of CAD (Solid Works preferred) to create models for use in design, prototyping, and developing medical devices.

* Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel and Project is required.

* Working knowledge of CAE programs (mechanical FEA / CFD) is a plus.

* Most often interacts with marketing, quality assurance, regulatory and manufacturing, but will also intract with almost every other department in the company.

* Extensive contact with customers, consultants, and vendors is necessary.

* Domestic and International Travel will be required. 5% to 10%.

     -Microscope/Fine close work 8 hours a day

     -Vision requirements correctable to 20/20 vision

     -Stand/Sit/Walk 8 hours a day

     -Dexterity required
