We are currently seeking talented Director Volunteer Programs for our San Antonio, TX facility.

PURPOSE OF JOB
The Director of Volunteer Programs provides leadership for USAA volunteer engagement and enables USAA to be a model corporate citizen and support the communities in which employees live and work. This person develops, formalizes and implements strategic community relations and volunteer activities that strengthen USAA's corporate citizenship programs to meet community needs. The role builds and cultivates strong relationships with key community and non-profit partners, and will evaluate existing partnerships and recommend opportunities to modify, increase, or revise current partnerships. This role will also seek and integrate enterprise vision and interests as well as industry best practices into volunteer program design and measurement.

JOB DUTIES

  • Actively interprets how the volunteer strategy can best align to the brand and goals of the company.
  • Create, oversee, formalize and implement a vision and strategy for USAA?s community programs.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for new volunteer partnerships and programs. Reviews, analyzes, and recommends volunteer requests.
  • Recruits, leads, retains and develops a high performance team of directs and indirect reports, and builds a strong and engaged USAA Volunteer Corp.
  • Analyzes organizations and financials to prepare plans and recommendations for the USAA volunteer program strategy.
  • Cultivates and manages relationships with key community and non-profit partners to reinforce USAA's brand promise and proactively build reputation.
  • Maintains a close relationship with local boards, USAA volunteers and community leaders.
  • Coordinates communication enterprise-wide to ensure understanding of commitments and concurrence with volunteer opportunities.
  • Leverages technology and social media as tools to strengthen the enterprise volunteer program.
  • Recruits, motivates, communicates, trains and recognizes volunteers in order to maintain a happy and engaged volunteer base.
  • Designs and implements service level objectives. Oversees fulfillment of all corporate volunteer commitments, as well as the timely development and delivery of volunteer impact summary documentation.
  • Works with appropriate staff leadership to determine program parameters and volunteer deliverables. Ensures routine communication is maintained with key contacts and corporate supporters to foster relationships.
  • Develops budgets and manages financial resources within the approved budget to ensure good stewardship.
  • Establishes and maintains productive relationships with other agencies and community-based organizations. Works across enterprise leadership to establish and revise community support policies.
  • Performs other duties as needed.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience leading and managing a team to successful outcomes.
  • 5+ years experience in working with volunteers and leading volunteer programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Human Resources or related degree or six years experience working with philanthropic programs within a large organization.
  • Previous experiencing leading a volunteer program within a large corporation.

Preferred

  • Master's degree.
  • 5+ years progressive experience in a volunteer or human capital management, training and development, and/or talent management role.
  • Experience developing and leading volunteer activities in support of public school systems and programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, high integrity and the ability to work independently to drive to established results.
  • The ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, public speaking and facilitation skills.
  • Self-directed, process-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.

***Selected candidates will attend and complete the Management Development School program in San Antonio, TX, during their first six months in position.***
