The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) exemplifies professional nursing practice and functions autonomously and in collaboration with healthcare providers.  The CNS acts as a clinician, educator, consultant, researcher and leader relevant to the needs of the patient, family, nursing personnel and the healthcare system. The role of the CNS is based on autonomy of practice, in-depth theoretical nursing knowledge, clinical expertise, and research application.  The CNS demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, clinical competency and professional development. The CNS serves in a clinical role to ensure total quality patient care and improve patient outcomes.  The CNS ensures that the Swanson Theory of Caring and patient/family centered care are the foundation for nursing practice.



 
Job Requirements
Required
  • Master's degree in Nursing and certification as indicated required
  • Active, unrestricted, current APRN license in state of KY. Signed, collaborative agreement if indicated and valid DEA number as indicated
  • 3 years nursing experience with 1 year experience in specialty area
  • Basic PC skills (i.e. email, common word processing, internet programs)


Preferred
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing
  • Certification in area of specialty
  • Spreadsheets, Powerpoint
