JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Under the direction of the Business Office Coding Manager, the Coder is responsible for identifying, managing and coordinating data entry of CPT, HCPCs and O+ICD-9 codes on a daily basis per Woodland Healthcare policy. The Coder will instigate correct claim forms and patient statements, working with providers and other departments. This position services as the provider liaison relating to coding, billing and documentation guidelines set forth by HCFA and the AMA.

QUALIFICATIONS:


This position requires certification from AAPC or AHIMA as well as an excellent knowledge of CPT, ICD and HCPC coding conventions. At least two years experience coding and/or insurance billing, health information or ambulatory/clinic and hospital operations.


JOB DUTIES:
1. Provides a safe environment for all patients, families and customers
2. Communicates effectively with all patients, families and customers
3. Identifies CPT, ICDâ€9 and HCPCS, independently and as team effort
4. Batches, balances and coordinates data entry of coded batches
5. Initiates correct claim forms and patient statements, acting as provider liaison relating to ding, billing and documentation guidelines
6. Conducts scheduled medical records audits for documentation per HCFA, AMA and JCAHO guidelines

This position is represented by Service Employees International Union, Local 250, and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
