JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking talented ALM Actuary for our San Antonio, TX facility.

PURPOSE OF JOB
The Senior Life Actuary coordinates, prepares and performs highly complex actuarial analyses required to develop new products, project future results, re-price existing products, and/or determine financial strength. This position will work on an Enterprise team managing Asset Liability Management (ALM) risk across the Life, Property and Causalty (P&C), Bank, Investment and Real Estate companies. The role will directly support the Life Company and Chief Financial Office (CFO) to model and manage Interest Rate Risk (IRR) for the Life insurance products.

JOB DUTIES

  • Under minimal supervision, performs complex and often unique work assignments utilizing actuarial modeling software driven models for pricing, valuation, and/or risk management. Enters data and tables, runs models, and generates reports. May make adjustments and improvements to models, when appropriate.
  • Shares knowledge with team members and serves as a key resource to less experienced team members on escalated issues and navigates obstacles to deliver work product. Serves as a Subject Matter Expert in one or more key areas.
  • Manages and oversees complex projects involving cross-functional actuarial areas. Leads project team through concept, planning, execution, and implementation phases with minimal guidance.
  • Reviews and produces reporting with great attention to detail. Identifies and resolves reporting problems independently, and improves reporting processes and controls.
  • Maintains proper price level, price structure, data availability and other requirements to achieve profitability and competitive goals.
  • Identifies critical experience areas to monitor and suggest timely remedies to correct or prevent unfavorable trends. Identifies sources of gain and loss by product and assumption.
  • Tests impact of assumptions and the appropriate premiums, interest margins, reserves, and cash values for profitability and viability of new and existing products.
  • Advises management on issues and serves as a primary resource for cross functional team members on escalated issues of a unique nature.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required (or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree may be substituted).
  • Six years actuarial experience required (or eight years of relevant business or analytical experience may be substituted).
  • ALM experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of actuarial technique and procedures, data analysis tools, and industry data sources.
  • Demonstrated success with project management and/or leadership; Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Applications, statistical analysis).
  • Intermediate knowledge of a programming language.
  • Attainment of Society of Actuaries Fellowship (or ASA with 10 years of experience in lieu of FSA designation may be considered).

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Economics.
  • More than nine years of actuarial experience.
  • Experience with Prophet or IGLOO tools.
  • Strong financial/technical skills (treasury and asset liability management expertise, interest rate risk hedging and data analytics).
  • Full income statement proficiency (Accounting, regulatory, rating agency).
  • Full balance sheet proficiency (Accounting, regulatory, rating agency).
  • Proven proficiency across a spectrum of financial products (such as annuities, universal life, invested assets).
  • Experience managing and reporting on interest rate risk at financial institution(s) regulated by the Federal Reserve.
  • Strong data management skills and experience with at least one programming language.
  • CFA.
