Financial Internal Control Manager

Job Description

Reporting to the Director, this position will manage members of the Financial Internal Controls team and assist in the delivery of the Internal Controls framework across Direct Energy. The framework is comprised of a set of tools and operating models that enable management to identify control requirements, build, implement and test the necessary controls and to report on their subsequent applications and effectiveness.
This position will also be responsible for providing direct support to Business Units (Operations) and functional teams in identifying key financial risks, assigning control ownership, and maintaining an ongoing perspective on changes that impinge the risk profile. The individual is expected to play a significant role in raising the profile of risk identification, mitigation and ongoing monitoring in delivering the Direct Energy Controls Plan and take the lead in ensuring that a risk mindset is embedded across the business. The successful candidate will be required to travel within North America up to 20%. The ability to build and lead a strong team, to successfully manage stakeholders and to influence those within key areas of the business are key attributes that the successful candidate will need to demonstrate.
• Drive the development, approval and delivery of the Internal Controls work plans
. Ensure successful implementation of the ARIS ARCM Self-Certification process across the business
. Lead projects and teams to deliver improved processes and controls as requested by the business
• Help improve the controls environment across the business with a focus in the Financial Controls space
• Provide leadership and technical guidance to a team of professionals and subject matter experts, who support all
locations across North America
• Reports to the Director of Internal Controls in the Finance Organization and stands in as a delegate as necessary
• Engage with independent parties to facilitate support and independent testing of key controls
• Work closely with Internal Audit, external auditors and other risk professionals
• Develop strong relationships with key business stakeholders to help develop a thorough understanding of the
Business’s risk profile and core processes and controls
• Create process maps and control matrices for new and updated processes
. Participate in due diligence and integration activities as required
. Ensure accurate reporting of DE controls activities to Group Controls
. Prepare the annual deficiency analysis for risk and materiality assessments

Job Requirements

Skills & Qualifications:
• Professional qualification (CPA,CIA,CFE,CMA, MBA)
• Big 4/Sox Experience
• Minimum 7 years management experience
• Experience in Risk Management and/or Internal Controls role
• Clear understanding of Control Frameworks and methodologies
. Track record of effective project management skills
• Excellent Communication skills (written and oral)
• Ability to effectively coach and mentor staff
• Ability to influence and drive cultural change
• Experience in the energy industry is highly preferred
