POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Education - Curriculum & Transition Services provides a critical liaison relationship with sending districts, and coordinates curriculum development and implementation, as well as related transition services. This position serves as a member of the Leadership Team and is instrumental in supporting policies and procedures, as well as school-wide strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Learning Process:  The Education Director “possesses a current, research and experienced-based understanding of learning theory and human motivation, helps develop such understanding in teachers and parents, and uses that understanding to promote the continuous improvement of student learning". 

 

Teaching Process:  The Education Director “possesses knowledge of teaching which is grounded in research and experience, and uses that knowledge to foster teacher’s reflection on the impact of their professional beliefs, expectations, and practices on student learning". 

 

School Culture:  The Education Director “utilizes multiple strategies to influence the school culture in a way that fosters collaboration among the staff and the involvement of parents, students, and the community in efforts to improve student learning". 

 

Student Standards and Assessment:  The Education Director works with the Team as well as being a member of the Leadership Team to “establish rigorous academic standards for all students and promotes the use of multiple assessment strategies to monitor student progress". 

 

Additional Administrative Functions:  As an active member of the Leadership Team, the Education Director participates in the overall development of policies and procedures as they relate to the effective provision of services to students who attend the Wheeler Clinic School, Inc. programs.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.

Demonstrates leadership by reinforcing positive behavior and promoting recognition through the use of effective employee evaluations, employee appreciation, effective hiring practices, and accountability.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Education or related field plus a minimum of 3 years experience with special education students. 092 CT Administration certification as well as an additional educational endorsement as approved by the State Department of Education regulations are required.
