Safety Engineer
 
This position supports several product safety engineers during the development and safety certification of hardware products. Responsibilities will include managing and maintaining a product safety lab as well as conducting product safety testing in accordance with UL/CSA 60950 and other IEC, UL, and IEEE standards as required for safety certification of data storage equipment.

The EPG system test group seeks an energetic and detail oriented individual contributor with a background in electrical/electronic engineering to support safety engineering and testing of consumer products such as 12, 24 and 60 drive data storage enclosures.
 
Responsibilities of the Safety Engineer:
  • Develop deep understanding of the products that are assigned and work with cross functional teams to address safety requirements and challenges
  • Develop deep understanding of manufacturing processes to identify and address potential manufacturing defects that can lead to potential safety issues
  • Work with suppliers, contractors, support staff and management to ensure that product safety is addressed in new product designs
  • Research literature and industry for advanced technology that may improve safety in emerging designs
  • Act as subject matter expert on safety issues and international requirements for assigned products
  • Reviews new hardware designs to ensure that materials are specified and selected to meet requirements
  • Develops and/or maintains internal safety specifications that apply to products in area of responsibility
  • Works with cross functional teams as needed to effectively communicate safety requirements and resolve safety issues

Job Requirements

Experience of the Safety Engineer:
  • Four year degree in electrical engineering or related degree field is highly desirable
  • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience is required, 5 to 7 years of experience is preferred
  • Direct experience with IEC/UL 60950 along with applicable test equipment, test procedures, and certified agency requirements is desired
  • Experience in working with external vendors and contractors to develop and qualify product design
  • Experience in conducting detailed failure analysis and developing lessons learned
  • Experience in conducting tests in accordance with IEC 60950 or other related Safety Compliance Testing is highly desirable
  • Experience in managing or maintaining a product safety test lab is highly desirable

The Safety Engineer role is a 1-year contract opportunity with one of our clients in Wichita, KS. Target rate is up to $18.12/hr. Local candidates strongly preferred. No sponsorship or C2C arrangements available.
