Duff-Norton Company, located in Charlotte NC,  is a global industry leading manufacturer of linear motion products Actuators, Electric Cylinders and Rotating Joints. This fast paced manufacturing environment with continuous product development is in search of a Senior Buyer with experience in a manufacturing environment buying steel, castings, and electro-mechanical components 

 

SUMMARY

Professional Buyer communicating with vendors on providing quality materials at competitive prices, delivered per our schedule ensuring on-time delivery to our customers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Communicates with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, lead time availability, and delivery schedule.

 

Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.

 

Estimates value according to knowledge of market price.

 

Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.

 

Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contract within budgetary limitations and scope of authority. Optimizes efficient order point and order quantities.

 

Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.

 

Performs ABC analysis as required.

 

Develops alternate sources for price reductions and problematic situations.

 

Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery performance, product quality, and inventories.

 

Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.

 

Perform vendor evaluations as required.

 

Ability to use SAP/ERP/MRP system and Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel).

 

Experience in using and interpreting engineering component drawings.

 

Communicates with management and hourly workforce.

 

Expedites delivery of goods to users insuring on time delivery.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience required in procurement of mechanical and electromechanical components including castings, bearings, gearing, machined parts, motors, gear reducers, etc.. Experience also required in global sourcing.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

NAPM membership and CPM desired. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, PFEP, 6 Sigma, Kanban, etc is also desired/.
