This is a great opportunity for a new graduate who is looking to utilize his/her education and interests to lead continuous improvement activities in a collaborative and forward-thinking manufacturing environment. 

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is charged with the responsibility to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, quality, safety, productivity, and on-time performance utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. The Continuous Improvement Engineer is, under the direction of the Engineering Manager and:

  • Supports the Manufacturing department in development of processes and tooling. Provide problem solving support to maintain a continuous flow of quality products to our customer.
  • Develops and/or designs processes, procedures tools and/or machines used to produce quality products. Work with Quality Engineering to develop capable and certified processes.
  • Lead and support actions for implementing cost reduction projects.
  • Coordinates and manages all phases of projects from beginning to end, insuring compliance to customer, industry standards.
  • Provides quotations for pricing of products using most economical manufacturing methods.
  • Creates and maintains accurate information within the manufacturing system relative to engineering responsibilities
  • Inspect, test, sort, or measure materials, products and work for conformance to specifications.
  • Assist with first article production or process issues
  • Manage process improvement projects
  • Identify methods to simplify processes so as to maximize efficiencies.
  • Prioritize products for cost reduction efforts using various cost, volume, and margin data.
  • Identify, develop and implement process cost reduction strategies via lean manufacturing techniques, 5S methods, etc.
  • Investigate operational problems affecting the production floor and deal with them in a systematic, methodical manner; includes timely root cause analysis of quality/efficiency problems as they occur and implementation of solutions to prevent recurrences.
  • Analyze and interpret blueprints, data, manuals, procedures and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required.
  • Operate precision test equipment and understand measuring devices operation and usage.
  • Use computers to enter, access, or retrieve data, to create reports, etc.
  • Work closely with customer representatives and employees to investigate concerns and to develop process improvements based on root causes.
  • Customer satisfaction focus, involving face-to-face communication with individuals or teams.

Education:

  • Bachelor of engineering or technology degree

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of TS 16949, statistical process control, machining practices, properties of materials, and the application of mathematics and dimensions to production machinery and tooling, modern fabrication and assembly techniques, and machine shop practices a plus.
  • Must be able to identify root cause using DOE Tools and develop appropriate corrective actions using 8D and 5 Why.
  • Efficiently integrate existing methods with new innovations, and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience with Auto CAD, Excel, Word, and Macola is a plus.
