LyondellBasell's Houston Refinery, one of the largest refineries designed to process heavy, high-sulfur crude oil is in search of a Senior Chemist to join our Quality team. The right candidate will have at least 10 years of related experience and a minimum of a BS in Chemistry or related discipline. Our 268,000-barrel-per-day refinery is strategically located on the U.S. Gulf Coast with access to interstate pipelines and the Port of Houston. The facility covers approximately 700 acres at the city limits of Houston and Pasadena, Texas.
The Houston Refinery was one of the first petroleum refineries constructed on the Houston Ship Channel and traces its origin to 1918. This is a high visibility position and will provide ample opportunities for growth. You will work with a team of dedicated, highly-trained professionals. The job duties include:
Recommend and implement technical direction set for the laboratory.
Maintain and keep current appropriate documentation for the refinery including testing procedures, equipment logs, technical reporting.
Develop and maintain the quality systems in support of the laboratory.
Develop and validate testing methods as needed.
Also, another key part of the role is to maintain and grow the data integrity program for the laboratory.
Ensure refinery lab data is monitored for correctness and out-of-control situations are managed appropriately.
Provide training of laboratory personnel on laboratory quality systems and procedures.
Provide technical input on process chemistry targets to be used as operational guides as experience allows.
Recommend technical training guidelines for all jobs in the laboratory.
Mentoring of less experienced chemists to develop understanding of the laboratory systems for technical assurance.
Identify opportunities for improvement for laboratory testing. And technical development of Technician Specialists and less experienced Chemists.
Function as a leader in the HRO Product Quality effort.
Execute the internal audit process in support of product and other lab quality systems.
Lead the follow up effort for quality system deficiencies. Report out on findings and resolution.
Track performance of the quality systems using defined metrics.
Product Quality incident investigation support.
Process Chemistry support to Technical Assurance and Operations.
Understand and apply refinery chemistry principles to measurements and be able to communicate this in a team environment.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident).
