Senior Accountant with Great Plains Experience

Job Description

Our distinguished startup-gone-public client is growing fast and seeking a Senior (GL) Accountant to join their corporate accounting team to perform the financial accounting for several business units.  The Senior Accountant will prepare journal entries and account reconciliations that tie to the G/L or subledgers, perform research and analysis of various accounting data, review monthly financial statements, and assist with special projects.  The Senior Accountant role will coordinate the daily accounting operations with others, in all aspects of journal entry preparation, processing, balancing account reconciliation, financial statements preparations, and regulatory reports for assigned entities. 

On an on-going basis, the Senior Accountant will participate in the month-end close processes by performing activities that include but are not limited to preparing, reviewing and posting journal entries. S/he will also provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced accountants while developing their own supervisory/management skills.

Job Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related business field along with 3-5 years of public or corporate accounting experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills are required, including hands-on everyday-use of Pivot Tables, Vlookups, SUMIFS, If-Then Statements.
  • 6-8 years of experience working in a progressively responsible accounting role.
  • Previous experience with Great Plains or a large ERP platform such as Oracle, SAP, or PeopleSoft is required.
  • Accounting research, reconciliation, analysis and reporting skills are essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Proficient in all aspects of the General Ledger reporting process.

  • Strong analytical skills are required as is the ability to research issues, prepare evaluations on problems and recommend viable solutions.
  • The ability to work as a team and as an individual contributor is required along with excellent communication and analytical skills to relay technical accounting information to non-technical people and act as a resource for less experienced accounting staff, as described.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to remain organized and focused is essential.
  • Able to work independently on accounting projects with minimal direction and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • A strong work ethic and can-do attitude are very desirable.
