Job Description


Established, grounded, growing and forward thinking household name company.  Very large company, privately held, and growing in multiple areas throughout the United States.
Reporting to the VP Finance, the Controller will work closely with senior management to add measurable value to the organization in accounting, finance and reporting. He or she will cover a broad range of duties with the ability to make an impact. Will assist in driving the performance of the company in a broad range of operational, accounting and financial reporting areas.  Will supervise and mentor staff as well as continue to build the team.
Responsibilities include:
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Accounting function for the organization.
  • Ensure credibility of the Accounting group by providing timely and accurate financials.  
  • Work with Finance on budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • In conjunction with the senior leadership team, identify, maintain and report on daily, weekly, monthly and annual KPI's that accurately measure the Company’s operating performance versus stated objectives.
  • Identify areas for improvement and work with functional leaders to develop improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior leadership team members; seek to provide finance/accounting/financial reporting and GAAP research so executive leadership can make informed decisions.
  • Partner with the finance, operations and information technology organizations in a manner where both accountability and development opportunities exist. 
  • Continuously build an intimate knowledge of the Company’s business, customers, profit drivers and the implications of the external competitive markets and environmental factors that may affect strategy and operating results.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Ability to produce accurate cash projections and financial statements.
  • Oversee and accelerate the closing process and continually improve accuracy when possible.
  • Supervise AP, AR, GL and Payroll.

Job Requirements

Qualifications Include:

  • BS/BA Accounting or equivalent
  • CPA preferred; other advanced degree a plus (MBA, etc.)
  • Big 4 public accounting preferred
  • 10+ years experience; must have strong management experience
  • Effective communicator with ability to interact with individuals at all levels
  • Experienced people manager of teams in a complex environment
  • Proficiency and experience in a F500 type company overseeing all aspects of accounting including reporting and analysis
  • Proficiency and experience in organizational and operational change for an accounting department
  • Proficiency in process standardization / process improvement for a company-wide accounting and reporting department
  • Excellent Business Analytic / Problem Solving skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Extensive MS Office experience (Advanced Excel)
  • Experience with projects and/or time sensitive deliverables
  • Understanding of accounting Principles
