Description
The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Programmer Analyst to provide operational and data analysis support for Next-Generation DNA Sequencing Informatics processes.
Responsibilities include installing, configuring and supporting vendor-supplied instrument control software solutions; tracking, predicting and developing plans to accommodate the disk storage requirements based on current and planned usage; monitoring and supporting the production next-generation DNA sequencing pipeline; and performing QA sequencing runs, organizing the results and communicating the completion status and QA results to appropriate staff.
In addition to excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, the successful candidate will have experience with sequence analysis applications including alignment and assembly; genomics problem solving; web applications development; statistical data analysis (R/Matlab); pipeline/workflow systems (i.e. make, biopipe); cluster computing (i.e. Sun Grid Engine); Bioperl, Ensembl API, or GMOD/GBrowse; biological sequence database management (i.e. Blast/Blat databases; and data visualization using genome browsers using 'track' formats such as GFF and bed.
Requirements
Minimum requirements include a Bachelors degree in computer science, statistics, math, engineering, or related fields; experience with software development in a Linux environment with at least one of the scripting languages (PERL, Python) and one high-level language (C++, Java); experience designing, coding, documenting, deploying and supporting custom software; experience with relational database applications development (i.e. MySQL, Postgresql); knowledge of software requirements analysis and definition; and knowledge of source coding management systems (subversion, cvs).
