Description Our client, a famous Manhattan specialty hospital, is seeking an Assistant Director of Medical Records. 

Primary responsibilities include the direct supervision of the coding staff and the management of processes related to the coding function ( indexing, abstracting, coding, research), including but not limited to training, systems evaluation and trouble shooting, staff selection, policy development, and works with other departments towards problem resolution and/or process improvements.

  • Collaborates with the Director in managing the provision of medical record services to ensure policies, procedures, standards and departmental objectives are met.  Knowledgeable in the following functions: record completion, transcription, file maintenance.

  • Serves as the expert resource on coding guidelines related to DRGs, APCs, APGs, in addition to ICD9CM and CPT coding rules,  supervises and educates coders.

  • Provides oversight for the appropriateness of coding for all case types via data quality reviews, validating code and modifier assignments as well as completeness, and monitors uncoded visits to maintain accounts receivable days to under 14

  • Develops coding related policies, practices and procedures.  Provides in-service education to coders and physicians to ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to Medicare and Medicaid.

  •  Recognizes opportunities for revenue enhancement related to coding issues and provides feedback to Medical Records Director towards compliant clinical documentation, and to coders to ensure complete and correct coding.

  •  Collaborates with Medical Records Director to resolve issues related to denials and delayed billing.

  •  Performs administrative duties, as needed, related to attendance records, vacation schedules, and payroll of the coding staff.

  • Participates in the hiring process, development and evaluation of employees.
  • Manages the Medical Records Department in the Director's absence
  • Collaborates with the Medical Records Director in developing the budget by identifying needs for the coding section.
Requirements CCS certification, and 3+ years HIM experience, supervisory experience preferred.
