Intrexon Corporation is developing DNA control systems to enhance the safety and efficacy of existing and novel biological therapeutics. The company’s technology employs special genetic components and activator compounds to tightly control the delivery, targeting, activation, regulation and location of biologics. Research Biologist - In Vivo Studies
The Research Biologist will perform activities in support of pre-clinical animal studies. The Research Biologist may assist in execution of technical procedures like inoculations, bleeding, minor survival surgery and autopsies. This position may also be responsible for care and management of research animals.
- Assist in the handling and monitoring of animals.
- Conduct small-animal survival surgeries in support of all activities in Translational Medicine.
- Perform laboratory-based assays (ELISAs, reporter assays, histology and genotyping) on animal tissues.
- Perform basic cell culture, PCR and other assay’s needed to support animal studies.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, keep instruments in good condition, schedule/perform cleanings, calibrations and service/repairs.
- Promptly report experimental results, enter generated data into relevant databases, and keep laboratory notebooks up to date.
- Strictly follow approved protocols and participate in writing of new laboratory procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education: B.S. in Biological Sciences or related discipline.
Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of relevant laboratory experience is preferred
Other Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in performing survival surgeries on animals.
- Experience in handling and use of viral vectors.
- Past experience with cancer or cardiac disease models is desirable.
- Possess a high degree of personal responsibility.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional analytical skills and work ethic.
- Ability to achieve in a milestone-driven, rapidly changing research environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with scientists of different backgrounds and experience levels.
- Skills in work and time management under project multitasking conditions.
- Ability to provide and apply creative solutions to maintain work flow.
