Regenstrief Institute, Inc. is seeking an entry level Systems Engineer whose primary function will be the further development of OpenMRS.

OpenMRS® is a community-developed, open-source, enterprise electronic medical record system platform. The community has come together to specifically respond to those actively building and managing health systems in the developing world, where AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria afflict the lives of millions. OpenMRS fosters self-sustaining health information technology implementations in these environments through peer mentorship, proactive collaboration, and a code base that equals or surpasses proprietary equivalents.

This individual will be an integral part of the OpenMRS software development group within the Medical Informatics Program located at the Health Information & Translational Sciences building at the basin of the canal.   This position will work on an open source project (with software developers from all over the world) and will be primarily responsible for the further development of the core framework used in all implementations of OpenMRS.    It is expected that this position will travel internationally twice per year on trips lasting 10-16 days.

Qualified Candidates with possess the following Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
• One year of related work experience programming in Java technologies and SQL.
• One year technical customer service involving troubleshooting and problem resolution
• Working knowledge of key Java technologies and SQL.
• Must be able to travel internationally twice per year for up to 16 days at a time.
• Demonstrated excellent speaking, writing and listening skills.
• Demonstrated ability to write reports and operational correspondence
• Demonstrated ability to consistently select suitable steps from several prescribed and obvious options in order to accomplish job results.
• This position requires the physical ability to work 40 hours per week, including the flexibility to work extended hours as necessary to meet organizational needs
• This position requires the ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
• This position requires the ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail
• This position requires some physical activity, such as pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and moving (up to 20 pounds)
• This work is fast-paced and deadline-oriented and requires a flexible work schedule
• This position requires working as a team member and also independently
