Medical Records Technician

Purdue University has a full-time opening with the primary responsibility of coding diagnoses / procedures. This person in this position will: code diagnoses and procedures for data collection to be used for research, teaching and retrospective studies; assemble and analyze medical records for completeness; understand and utilize the electronic Hospital Information System, medical coding resources and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in order to perform medical record department procedures or processes as assigned; and perform medical record retrieval and process release of information requests.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
One year of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology or coding coursework
Medical or veterinary terminology knowledge
Working knowledge of Hospital Information Systems
RHIT, RHIA, CMA or coding certification preferred
One year medical record processing and/or coding experience preferred
