Description

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Programmer Analyst to conduct bioinformatics/statistical analysis on a variety of data.


Primary responsibilities include analyzing "omics" data generated in-house, including expression array, ChIP-chip, next-generation ChIP-seq and RNA-seq data, using both established and originally developed statistical and algorithmic methods; developing software and tools for biological data analysis; and collaborating within the group and with biologists at the institute to establish and maintain the analysis pipeline.


In addition to excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively function in a team-oriented environment, the successful candidate will be fluent with R and Bioconductor packages, and have experience with data visualization using genome browsers and cluster computing.

Requirements

Minimum requirements include a Masters degree in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or related field; understanding of genomics, molecular biology, and microbiology; understanding of analytical techniques associated with high throughput ChIP-Seq, ChIP-Chip, microarray and/or Next generation sequencing; and knowledge of at least one scripting language (PERL, Python, Unix shell).
