Lead Database Architect

The Lead Database Architect role is a direct hire opportunity with one of our clients in Chapel Hill, NC. Target salary range is $110,000 - $120,000 with flexibility to get the right candidate. The benefits package is superb offering medical with HSA or PPO, Dental, Short and Long-term Disability, Life Insurance, and Retirement. No sponsorship available.

Responsible for the data architecture and database design of applications systems across technologies and platforms. Provides architectural oversight and direction to data/database management and development through the development of standards, policies, architectural patterns, and frameworks. Works with the staff to gather business requirements for data standards and schemes, data structure, database systems, and software development based on industry’s best practices. Provides solutions that meet requirements on time and within budget. Leads database development and software development projects and performs project management functions as the technical leader. Requires excellent leadership and communications skills.

Job Requirements

Requirements of the Lead Database Architect:
Education:
  • B.S. Degree in computer science or related areas.
  • Master/PhD degree preferred.

Experience:
  • Minimum seven (7) or more years of data/database architecture experience. Twelve (12) to fourteen (14) years experience in all tasks within the data/database and/or software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience serving as the data architecting lead and project manager on complex development and maintenance/migration projects.
  • Experience working with technical products and vendors.
  • Experience working with database management, migration and integration tools and products.

Skills:
  • Strong understanding and execution knowledge and experience in all areas of the data/database development and management, including architect, standards, migration, protocols, communication, integration, quality assurance, and security.
  • Strong knowledge in the areas of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including project planning, requirements definition, analysis and design, integration and testing, and project acceptance.
  • Strong awareness of applicability and benefits/deficiencies using leading industry and technology trends including SOA, Cloud computing, Open-source and architecture, and Agile management.
  • Proficient in and/or familiar with leading database software environments including MS SQL (Cluster), Oracle, MySQL, TOAD, ETL, HA, and Data Warehouse.
  • Knowledge and experience in programming environments such as Java, .Net/C#, and/or PHP/Python.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Web Services and configuration of Web server software, such as WebSphere, Apache, IIS, application server/APIs.
  • Requires excellent leadership and communications skills.
