POSITION SUMMARY

Wheeler Clinic is seeking experienced Clinicians to work with foster care youth in the Waterbury, Torrington, and Danbury areas.  This is an exciting opportunity for licensed clinicians to use their skill in working with families by providing individual and family therapy in the youth’s foster home.  Clinicians will have the opportunity to work as part of the foster care team.  Clinicians will have additional opportunities to grow their skills through training and supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts program specific screening and evaluation, and formulates diagnosis in accordance with the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM). Develops and documents, clear clinical formulations and comprehensive treatment/service plans that are multidimensional, individualized, measurable, and developed in collaboration with the client, family, and other collaterals involved with the child.

Demonstrates knowledge of psychopathology and other behavioral health concerns and primary modalities of psychotherapeutic intervention. Triages clinical emergencies and implements program specific safety and consultation protocols. Utilizes best practices and evidenced based practice models where appropriate and adheres to model and program expectations.

Is actively involved in the matching process, meeting with the youth to determine placement needs and preferences and to identify child-specific training needs for the foster family.

Assists in development and delivery of post-licensure training for foster families, and works with families in developing child specific training plans for foster parents, to assist them in developing the skills that will help support youth in achieving goals on their service plans.

Communicates in a positive, effective manner with children, foster families, biological families, and all internal and external providers involved as required.

Attends all necessary internal and external meetings with foster care staff, providers, foster and biological parents, and children associated with the foster care program.

Works with team to ensure appropriate care management services to help foster children stabilize in placement and improve overall functioning.

Provides support/direction to foster families to assist them in caring for the children placed in their homes.

Monitors foster parent compliance with program expectations/policy and assists families in meeting these requirements.

Works with biological families, where appropriate, to help them to support the child while in foster placement and/or to prepare for their return home.

Meets direct service productivity goals as defined by the program. Demonstrates knowledge of program/department/agency goals and target outcomes, and adheres to practice standards and to data collection and reporting protocols.

Attends and is prepared for scheduled supervision. Seeks additional supervision or consultation as needed and follows through with supervisory directives.

Documents all client related information in compliance with agency policy and DCF contractual standards for child and/or families within the foster care program.

Provides service in the office and/or community settings outside the office (e.g., homes, schools, hospitals, institutions, other community locations) as defined by the program.

Provides after hours on call response to foster children and their families on a rotating basis with other foster care program staff.

Promotes and supports the foster care program within the community, and assists with recruitment and training as needed.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.

Job Requirements


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s or doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Counseling and experience working with behavioral health service delivery to children, adolescents with serious behavioral health concerns and their families are required. Experience working with the foster care population is preferred.
