PICC RN – Infusion RN - LTC Job Description:

The primary function of the Infusion Nurse RN is to provide essential in-home IV Infusion medical treatment, response management and follow up care to clients which reside in skilled nursing facilities. In addition, within an assigned geographical territory, the Infusion Nurse RN will administer and monitor patients during treatment and provide the necessary education on treatment regimen, condition management and treatment self-administration when appropriate. Locations served are SNF’s and availability and needs are 7 days a week primarily from 7am – 10pm


Ultrasound Units are provided so the PICC RN can select the best entry for the line and services are coordinated with an X-ray service to aid the PICC RN at the bedside to visualize proper placement of the PICC Line in the SVC. X-ray’s are then transmitted to Radiology to be read and confirmed The Vascular Program offers PICC, MID’s, PIV’s, Line removal, Trouble Shooting, Dressing Changes, In-services & Education.


  • Demonstrates ability to assess patient past and current medical history including laboratory values, venous and muscle skeletal status that is pertinent in qualifying a patient as a candidate for PICC placement
  • Assures physicians order on chart for PICC placement
  • Assures Proper Informed Consent has been obtained
  • Performs time out; correct patient identifier prior to initiating PICC procedure
  • Demonstrates clinical proficiency performing ultrasound guided PICC insertions maintaining aseptic technique utilizing measures that prevent patient discomfort and trauma related to procedure
  • Demonstrates high level skills in critical thinking and assessment related to vascular access devices
  • Documents procedure in patient’s permanent medical record
  • RN will travel within California to perform duties
  • Provide IV services including PICC line insertions in skilled nursing facilities and Long Term Care
  • Ability to train patients in the self-administration of treatments, and how to quickly recognize and respond to symptoms of adverse physical reactions to treatments
  • Coordinate with pharmacists and physicians to address changes in patient condition or drug management issues
  • Collaborate and communicate with office personnel regarding patient status and treatment needs
  • Document all interactions and communication with patients, plan of treatment and  assessments, treatments, patient responses/reactions to treatment, status of disease process and training activities in a timely manner
  • Complete training for new/specialty infusion therapies


PICC RN – Infusion RN - LTC Background Profile:

  • RN Licensure in California
  • Undergraduate Degree in Nursing
  • 2 years of OR, IR or PICC insertion experience
  • Maintains PICC certification of completion from a state approved educational provider for PICC theoretical course
  • Maintains yearly PICC competency
  • Ability to work independently and possess strong communication and teaching skills
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel within designated market
  • Continues ongoing education and improves knowledge level related to vascular access and current trends in infusion therapy
  • PICC or CRNI  Access device certification
  • BLS certification
  • Computer or Other Skills: General PC knowledge including Microsoft Office, Internet and email Home internet access is strongly desired
  • Knowledge and Abilities: Strong venous access skills
  • Availability to work weekend hours if needed
  • Flexibility to work alternate shifts on short notice
  • Ability to lift and perform repetitive motions
  • Critical care experience preferred
  • Previous home infusion experience a strongly preferred
