Embedded Software Architect

Job Description


Our customer, in Loves Park, IL, needs a very accomplished software architect to fill a permanent position

 

As a member of the cross-functional project teams, the Senior Engineer – Software is responsible for conducting critical and advanced design and development of new products. Additional responsibilities include researching and recommending new technologies and processes planned for future products.

 

Critical Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare designs, specifications, analysis and recommendations for development of new products.
  • Maintain records pertinent to each project in the form of time, project key point statements, project and work tracking reports, design journals, sketches, drawings, etc.
  • As required, lead software team members in planning and effective execution of a project.  Plan and assign tasks to team members, follow up, and perform ongoing change management.  Maintain a view on software project status and communicate with the project team and with stakeholders, proactively solve problems and respond to stakeholder concerns.
  • Influence cross functional and global R&D.  As required, participate in a project core team to lead a multi-faceted, organized project team of engineers as Project Core team member for product development.
  • Gather necessary input and influence high level product design decisions, and make software system architecture decisions. Involve and influence teams to carry out the chosen solutions.  Lead discussions on technical topics. 
  • Render technical advice and assistance to other product development personnel as to designs, specifications, information sources and testing procedures.
  • Oversee the operations involved in the development and testing of prototype products.
  • Keep well informed of new developments in the research and design engineering fields through contacts with educational institutions, professional societies and organizations, and through the use of texts, technical papers, journals, and periodicals.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Master’s degree with advanced course work in areas relevant to product development preferred
  • Seven years experience required in areas related to software product design and development and/or engineering research
  • Minimum of five years experience working with and expertise within embedded software design, OOD, and an object oriented programming language (C++ preferred).
  • Knowledge of real-time software design, software-hardware interaction with real time operating systems, multithreading, and event driven architectures
  • Limited international travel
  • Ability to work over-time as required
  • Strong knowledge and three years experience working with UML and designing software systems that utilize middleware preferred
