FPGA Development Engineer

Job Description

Our customer in Lake Forest, CA needs a contract FPGA design engineer to fill a 6 month assignment that could go longer depending on work load

The Industrial Automation Systems R&D group develops safety and critical control systems, which provide high-value solutions for critical control and safety applications.

You will be responsible for FPGA development of safety products, in all phases of software product development life-cycle – requirements, architecture, design, implementation and verification



Job Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of FPGA design experience in the following areas: industrial controls, aerospace, communications, or medical devices, etc.
  • Experienced in the design of embedded analog/digital modules, sub-systems, and systems using FPGA’s and embedded microprocessors (ARM, PowerPC, etc.).
  • Experience with the following tool set: Xilinx ISE (including ChipScope), Libero SoC, Altera Quartus (including Signaltap), ModelSim DE, Synopsys – Synplify Pro, Perl and Active Perl.
  • Experience with FPGA test bench, simulation and regression test, including test case definition and code coverage.
  • Experience with TI RM42 ARM Processor and Spartan 6 board level design and validation.
  • Excellent diagnostic, debug, and troubleshooting skills, using standard lab/bench equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, which includes ability in writing technical documents.
  • Ability to accurately document system level designs and changes.
  • Strong ability to go from design specification and requirements to final product development with minimal support from internal engineers.


Nice To Have:


  • Experienced in design of high reliability, safety, redundant fail-safe products is a strong plus.
  • Experienced with industry standards (IEC 61508, IEEE 1012, Mil-Std, etc.).
  • Experienced with development using agile methodology
