Test Technician - Product Performance

Job Description

As a Test Technician for Product Performance with Manitowoc Cranes*, under the general direction of Test Engineers or Test Managers, you will be responsible for supporting the verification programs at the Product Verification Center through procedures, standards, setup, implementation, execution, analysis of test data, and reporting. You will also be responsible for operating cranes and test equipment for the purpose of collecting and reporting test data.


Reporting directly to a Test Engineer, this position is based in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania.

Essential Job Functions:

• Execute standardized testing protocols; Setup of Electrical, Material, Structural and Hydraulic tests

• Intermediate knowledge and use of the Verification Management System; Instrumentation of machines

• Documentation and maintenance of key test procedures; Support major test configurations to include data acquisition systems; Continual detailed documentation of CDT/CDA/PPP testing with operators

• Maintenance of test facility, equipment and machines; (welding, fabrication etc.);

• Maintenance of key systems; Detailed troubleshooting support and baseline analysis; Detailed crane operation

• Electrical and/or hydraulic systems test support and monitoring.

• Support HVAC, Engine, Drive train and Sound Testing.

• Safety - Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards, perform job functions in a safe manner, wear all PPE required by Company Policy were required, know & follow established job specific and facility wide safety & health procedures and rules, participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received, and bring safety and health

Job Requirements

Job Requirements/Working Conditions:

• Minimum of a 2 year Associates degree, or other similar vocational training, in a technology related field required {OR} a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar engineering design or test related environment in lieu of degree required.

• CCO Certified Preferred

• Microsoft Skills - Word keyboarding skills, Excel, Power Point.

• Familiarization with applicable Industry Standards

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds

• Basic to Intermediate knowledge of data acquisition equipment including their various potential uses, setup and execution.

• CDL Class A or B License preferred, but not necessary.

• Training – Ability to complete job related training including Six Sigma Red Belt training.

• Willing to work outside at least 80% of the time.

• Travel to remote locations to perform on site testing and/or customer support.

• Ability to operate various types of mobile and stationary cranes including, but not limited to, Truck-Mounted, Rough Terrain, Carry Deck, Crawler, Tower, etc…

• Ability to read, understand, and utilize standard ASAE Crane and Rigging symbols/signals

• Ability to use basic PC/laptop/tablet and employee desktop functions

• Ability to read and understand blue prints.

• Ability to utilize basic measurement devices such as a tape measure, pressure gauges, electrical multimeter, etc…

• Ability to read and understand standard Test Documents understanding including CDA/CDT procedures.

• Strain Gauge – ability to properly install strain gauges.

• Test setups and Test equipment support

• Perform various crane operation functions in order to simulate real world customer environments.

• Demonstrated ability to organize thoughts and communicate them in a structured manner (both verbally and written), possess basic to intermediate technical writing skills

• Machine Tools and fabrication experience a plus

• Ability to take direction to perform tasks in a safe, efficient and productive manner while maintaining the ability to offer constructive objections and comments.

• Must perform job functions in a safe manner, wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required, by company policy, for the job being performed and maintain area and equipment in orderly condition and comply with all safety practices and safety training.
