Fabrication Sales Representative

Job Description

Metals USA, has an immediate opening for a Fabrication Sales Representative in our Greensboro, NC facility.  The Fabrication Sales Representative is responsible for compiling estimates of how much it will cost to provide a customer or potential customer with products and/or services. This is accomplished by working out how much a project is likely to cost and create budgets accordingly. The job involves assessing material, labor and equipment required and analyzing different quotes from customers and potential customers; placing orders, facilitating requests, and following up to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved.  
  • Utilize Metals USA’s internal fabrication capabilities in conjunction with strategic outside vendors to meet customers specifications. 
  • Analyze customer drawings, develop processing times, solicit vendor quotes and work with CAD files to develop optimal nesting
  • Respond to customers everyday needs (quotes, orders, expediting) to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Efficiently take customer orders ensuring inventory is available, pricing is within guidelines based upon the current price book, and delivery schedule can be met
  • Visualize, analyze, and communicate project scope of work to teammates, including operations.
  • Prepare preliminary cost estimates/budgets/schedule
  • Daily interaction with large customer base on contractual and transactional business
  • Estimate material, labor and freight costs, for individual components and complete assemblies.
  • Sourcing for items that are not commonly stocked.
  • Understanding the sales cycle from raw material to finished products
  • Following up on and generating new sales leads.
  • Responsible for forecasting project costs, considering factors such as raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation for estimations, and suggesting value-added options/solutions based on customer requirement.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints in order to effectively estimate projects.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or commensurate sales / estimating experience in steel industry or contract manufacturing environment
  • 1-3 years’ of prior work experience in field or related area
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Technical and/or math aptitude
  • Ability to read customer drawings and specification sheets/blueprints.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Proven teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft office software skills such as Outlook, Word and Excel
