Industrial Engineer II

Job Description

The Industrial Engineer II is responsible for implementing changes to improve operations and establishing additional capabilities: pricing, profitability, facility design, material handling equipment specification, labor management, staff planning, project management and continuous improvement.


Primary Duties:

  • Serves as a resource to solve customer needs for additional services and contract interpretation
  • Assists in sales process by visiting potential or existing customers to develop scope of work, operational planning and opportunity assessment
  • Participates in the implementation of new business initiatives by assisting initiative owner with data collection and analyzes initiatives to anticipate possible roadblocks and identify possible solutions
  • Serves as a start-up team member on assigned projects to on-board new customers
  • Facilitates cross functional teams
  • Evaluates and designs new layouts: including storage rack, conveyor, automation, and other material handling solutions for facilities
  • Establishes labor standards and maintains labor management system, Red Prairie, to ensure accurate goal times and timely performance feedback
  • Identifies opportunities and leads process improvement projects to drive cost savings
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement
  • Designs and conducts training for process and system changes, labor management system and continuous improvement tools
  • Analyzes labor data, finance data and key metrics to make recommendations to management and conduct cost/benefit analysis
  • Conducts root cause analysis and develops data analysis tools, i.e. labor planning, slotting, etc. to assist operation management
  • Assists in the design of contracts including: scope of work development, assumption justification, operational plan development and pricing
  • Other duties as required and assigned

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Industrial Engineering from a 4 year college or university
  • Minimum 5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3PL warehousing, distribution center or fulfillment experience preferred
  • Experience with Auto CAD
  • PC literate with experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access

Essential Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, technical procedures and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively communicate process and technical concepts to a variety of audiences from entry level warehouse employee to executive level
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
 

Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel.  The employee is regularly required to talk, hear and communicate.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  The employee is frequently required to work in both an office setting and a warehouse.  The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and temperate climate conditions.
