Corporate Controller

Well established, growing and forward thinking business.  Very large company and growing in multiple areas throughout the United States.  

 

The Corporate Controller will work closely with senior management to add measurable value to the organization from a technical accounting, SOX, audit and staff management perspective.  He or she will cover a broad range of duties with the ability to make an impact. Will assist in driving the performance of the company in a broad range of areas.  Will supervise and mentor a staff of senior level professionals and continue to build the team.


SUMMARY:  The Corporate Controller is primarily responsible for preparation, review and communication of the business unit’s financial statements and controls, all accounting to ensure compliance with GAAP and development and execution of each business unit’s strategic initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee, review and ensure the accuracy of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules, documentation and reconciliations required for monthly/quarterly/yearly close across all operating business units and their respective controllers.
  • Perform monthly/quarterly consolidation processes, including intercompany eliminations, as well as preparation of reporting packages.
  • Conduct technical research related to accounting standards and/or business issues requiring such research, and timely and accurate application of findings
  • Ensure compliance with external reporting standards (GAAP) and internal policies and procedures, including documentation and testing of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 controls.
  • Help identify and develop process improvement policies to further enhance the accounting department’s overall structure and accountability.
  • Review and analyze all general ledger activity for senior management.
  • Clearly communicate and report results of operations to business unit department leaders and corporate finance, which include variance analysis and cause of change schedules.
  • Aid in the development of standardized accounting policies across all business units and ensure accurate and consistent application. 
  • Work closely with the external audit firm to ensure timely and effective audit process of results across all markets and divisions.
  • Provide oversight and establish strong control environment over the general ledger.
  • Interface with other departments (ie. Tax, legal, etc.) to solve issues, establish policies and improve processes.
  • Other duties as assigned (i.e. special projects, due diligence, etc.). 

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting from a four-year college required.

·         CPA designation strongly preferred (inactive OK).

·         Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred.

  

EXPERIENCE:

 

·         10+ years of experience.

·         Public accounting experience strongly preferred.

·         Large private or public company accounting experience required.

·         Strong internal controls experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

 

·         Robust and extensive knowledge of US GAAP, include researching applicable accounting treatment

·         Deep knowledge of corporate accounting, financial statement preparation and consolidation maintenance and internal control processes.

·         Background in a large, multi-entity environment.

·         Vigorous attention to detail, demonstrated integrity and professionalism.

·         Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

·         Ability to multitask and prioritize diverse tasks.

·         Strong interpersonal skills.

·         Prior supervisory experience of senior level accounting professionals.
