Job Description

My client is a global leader in integrated solutions for the transfer, flow, filtration, separation and treatment of water and other fluids. Products range from light duty diaphragm pumps to high-flow turbine pumps and solid handling pumps designed for water, wastewater and variety of industrial and residential applications, as well as ultrafiltration membranes, pressure vessels, quality control equipment, hygienic valves & pumps and complete process systems.  If interested in joining an organization where you can make a real impact and influence growth and direction then this may be the opportunity for you!


Job Purpose:

Drives innovation and growth via new products on a global basis for an $850 million division.  Directs Global Engineering and coordinates their activities with all other departments to achieve maximum growth efficiency and produce cost-effective, high-quality products.  Provides strategic direction to the Global Engineering department by deploying resources, developing engineering policies and procedures consistent with organizational requirements, corporate standards, and company vision.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  1. Participates in the development and execution of the platform’s global business strategies.
  2. Leads Global Engineering teams at multiple sites and develops and deploys engineering strategies throughout the function.
  3. Provides the strategic direction and leads product development to ensure the company’s position as industry leader with technology, quality and cost.
  4. Guides new product projects through 3D stage gate process(es).  Ensure right engineering resources (including from outside groups) are applied to projects. 
  5. Collaborates across functions and regions to ensure that stake-holders have input, buy-in, and support of engineering projects.
  6. Works with global Sales, Product Management, and Operations teams to develop, design, and implement ideas for new products and innovations. 
  7. Coordinates Global Engineering activities based on Sales and Product Management requirements and Operations production schedules.  Coordinates global research activities to develop new technologies.
  8. Explores new technologies for use in our offerings to include connectivity, etc.                                  
  9. Develops and manages departmental budgets, optimizing resources to deliver cost-effective products.      
  10. Develops, organizes and maintains engineering specifications, standards and process equipment operational parameters to ensure process stability while maximizing yield, cycle time and efficiencies.
  11. Applies Value Engineering principles both before launch and throughout project life to give Sales the ability to retain the business at or above desired profit levels. 
  12. Assists the VE/Supply function with vendor, material selection and cost reductions.  Works with Operations to trouble shoot and problem solve. 
  13. Determines engineering policies and procedures consistent with overall Company/platform objectives and supervises implementation within the function. 
  14. Develops and utilizes performance metrics for all areas of direct responsibility to maintain alignment of Global Engineering team performance and Company/platform goals.
  15. Evaluates competitor's products.                                                                                                                    
  16. Works with patent attorneys to secure intellectual property rights and maintain intellectual property files.

Job Requirements

Education:  Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) or equivalent in Engineering, Masters preferred

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive and relevant engineering leadership experience within a global manufacturing company.  Prior experience with pumps, membrane and fluid handling systems is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience leading global engineering teams in multiple sites, including in matrix organizations.
  • Able to travel globally up to 30% of the time.

Specific Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SAP

Competency with stage gate process(es) and IP process

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with new product introduction processes and formalized tools like 3D, 6 Sigma, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate and champion change, implement process improvement initiatives, and build a strong cohesive team.  Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships and interfaces with employees at all levels of the organization, customers, and suppliers. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present ideas and information to people at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective leadership and people management skills.  Ability to lead, manage, train and coach others and facilitate the transfer of knowledge.  Willingness to provide and accept constructive feedback to further continuous improvement and development of people. 
  • Effective organization, project management, and task management skills that include the ability to plan, prioritize, organize, gather facts, and exercise sound judgment in problem solving and decision making.  Strong work ethic, task and detail orientation.
  • Ability to work under general direction and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
