DESCRIPTION:
Temporary, Full-time, Exempt position
The Institutional Research Support Specialist will perform Research/database and administrative duties for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Planning in an effort to promote institutional effectiveness, student success, and a culture of evidence. The
individual hired for this position will develop manual and automated reporting solutions for both internal and external audiences, including state and federal reporting and apply business intelligence knowledge to the data to make efficient and useful reports. This is a
temporary full-time exempt position with benefits reporting to the Chief of Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Planning.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Data Extraction and Database Management
 Extract and prepare data for analysis from internal and external sources such as: the Operational Data Store (ODS) using SQL, People Soft using PS Query and other tools, from the State Board Data Warehouse using ACCESS, and other local and external sources.
 Mine data from disparate sources to provide comprehensive information perspectives. (Requires an understanding of relational databases.)
 Create advanced SQL Queries for extracting data from database systems and use data to build reports for dissemination via SQL Reporting Services, Tableau, and other reporting tools.
 Maintain data warehouse and other databases, includes appending files as needed. Data Reporting, Accuracy, and Confidentiality
 Design, develop and deploy institutional, departmental, functional, and ad-hoc reports as needed in support of state and federal accountabilities.
 Ensure correct and timely submission of reports to external agencies such as SBCTC, IPEDS, and the National Student Clearinghouse. This includes accountable for the accuracy and confidentiality of results, and timeliness of report submission.
 Review data and reports to ensure accuracy and identify inconsistencies.
 Serve as part of a team to ensure the consistency and integrity of institutional data.
 Assist with the accreditation process, as well as programs such as Achieving the Dream and the Student Achievement Initiative.
Research, Data Analysis & Presentation
 Analyze data and construct reports and tables using appropriate software.
 Organize, prioritize, and respond to ad-hoc requests.
 Assist clients with establishing reporting needs for effective decision-making.
 Construct research reports from proposal to final draft
 Provide training on analytic reports and report technologies. Conduct statistical analysis of data and interpret results
 Design and implement survey and other qualitative research projects, includes developing survey instruments and focus group outlines in conjunction with other departments, committees, and individuals, and establish appropriate reporting protocols. Administrative Support and Institutional Activities
 Develop and maintain data dictionaries, procedure documentation and reporting inventories.
 Perform administrative staff functions including budget tracking, correspondence, records management, scheduling, travel and event planning. Accountable for accurate record keeping and planning.
 Participate in departmental and college wide meetings as necessary
 Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE AND MODEL
 Skill in using standard software to manipulate large datasets for querying, analysis and visualization.
 SQL Programming Language
 The ability to acquire, evaluate, organize, maintain, and communicate data.
 Knowledge and understanding of general principles of descriptive statistics and research methods.
 Excellent analytical/critical thinking skills with experience analyzing and interpreting complex data.
 Strong technical writing and communication skills, time management skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
 The ability to work independently.
 Positive interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively, build effective working relationships, and work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
 A positive attitude and the ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrate a commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework that includes knowledge of research methods, statistics, and/or data systems design and management and two years of experience using large-scale relational databases to meet the reporting needs/requirements of an organization or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Demonstrated proficiency developing queries in SQL
 Demonstrated proficiency developing advanced queries in MS Access and conducting data analysis in MS Excel or other statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Master’s Degree in from an accredited college or university with coursework that includes knowledge of research methods, statistics, and/or data systems design and management.
 Experience in Washington community and technical college system or higher
education, especially in a research setting.
