Physician North Tenaya Surgery Center Anesthesiology
The job of the covering Anesthesiologist at the SSC is vital to the smooth and efficient performance of the SSC. It requires active participation in every facet of the center. This includes, but is not limited to:
Work with the Perioperative Services office on preoperative evaluations: be readily available to answer questions; be available to speak with patients as needed concerning their medical needs and questions.
Be readily available to evaluate patients in PreOp, including doing preoperative evaluations as necessary.
Be readily available for consultation and assistance with the CRNA's in the OR, including patient positioning and transfer, and assistance with pediatric patients.
Assist our surgeons with any issues that may arise.
Be readily available for patient evaluations and consultations in PACU.
Readily available means that you are an active participant in the care of our patients at the SSC.
In PreOp, this means that you are assisting in preparing the patients for their procedure: assisting in counseling the patients, doing preoperative assessments, starting IV's when necessary, doing blocks for postoperative pain management, and acting as a consultant to the CRNA's and Surgeons.
In the OR, this means that you are checking in regularly, greeting our Surgeons and assisting the CRNA's as necessary.
This means that you should be doing most of the discharge evaluations in PACU ('sign-outs'). And for those you are not signing out, you are frequently putting 'eyes on' so that there is never a question in your mind as to the appropriateness of the patient for discharge (and also so that you can ensure that they are not being held in PACU for excessively long times).
This means that most of your time will be spent actively engaged in the care of our patients. In this way we can identify issues before they occur.
BE HERE NOW is an Optum credo. When you are here, focus your attention on making sure that our patients have the best possible experience and outcome!
