Electrical Engineer


Our client is seeking a contract, full-time, electrical engineer for their Product Development Group to be part of the team to design, build and debug capital equipment for one of their customers.   Our client is privately owned, 80 person, engineering services company that performs simulation, product development and rapid prototyping for our customers.  This position reports to the Manager, Product Development.


              Design, implement and test, power distribution and control system hardware, software, and instrumentation

              Develop methodologies to evaluate new control system hardware/software control and instrumentation

              Participate in all phases of the power distribution and control system design and hardware selection

              Define system level requirements for power distribution and control system hardware/software

              Review vendors' detailed design to ensure system requirements are fully developed

              Develop technical recommendations and reports for review across multiple technical disciplines

              Follow document and revision control procedures for management of designs

              Select new power distribution and electronic components and circuits

              Create and maintains design history

              Assist with the development of qualification test procedures and carries out qualification testing

              Conduct testing and integration testing for functionality and limits

              Collaborate with vendors on product specifications and component selection

              Create block diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams and cable assembly drawings for the power distribution and control systems

              Create interlock diagrams to ensure system safety

              Interface with the mechanical, software and process engineers to assure smooth integration of the power distribution and control system into the equipment

              Communicate with the project manager on status, technical issues, etc.

              Interface with the customer as needed



              Detailed knowledge and proficiency with power distribution and real time control system hardware and instrumentation

              Experience with PLCs and PC based control systems; Siemens preferred

              Experience and knowledge with AC Servo motor technology, DC Brushless motor technology, low pressure (vacuum) measurement instrumentation, high-purity gas mass flow controls and meters, high current DC power supplies, high vacuum pumping systems preferred

              Experience with distributed I/O system architectures, capabilities, and performance

              Good understanding of national and international standards and procedures for industrial equipment

              Good knowledge of test lab equipment

              Good knowledge of electrical theories, design principles and practices, and design evaluation techniques

Job Requirements

The minimum requirements for this position are:

              B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.  May have advanced degree.

              7+ years relevant industry experience

              5+ years experience designing power distribution and control systems of capital equipment to meet CE standards.

              5+ years experience working in a new product development environment

              Hands on experience testing & debugging electrical/electro-mechanical systems

              Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal  communication skills

              Autocad Electrical experience

              Familiarity with CE compliance for industrial equipment


The following experience/skills are a plus:

              Experience designing the power distribution and control systems of semiconductor capital equipment

              Familiarity with Solid Works modeling software
