RF Engineer III

Job Description


  • Search area issuance, candidate assessment, and approvals within sector area of responsibility
  • Redesign of mature network areas to minimize capacity constraints
  • Interface with other areas of network to ensure performance fixes/initiatives are in place
  • Partner with System Performance to improve network performance
  • Prepare timely FCC/FAA and FAS submissions
  • Prepare regulatory submissions in NWF; procuring all needed documents. AM studies, Border & Extension Agreements, Spectrum Clearance.
  • Conduct data analysis of switch statistics and drive data by conducting drive testing for potential sites, new site integration, and system optimization
  • Perform radio engineering evaluation for system planning and site acquisition
  • Model network using RF propagation and planning tools
  • Conduct and oversee field tests for potential sites
  • Plan frequency assignments and identifying technical parameters for network growth
  • Document and report findings
  • Plan near term integration of new technologies for first applications in the network
  • Identify location specific needs for new cells using appropriate methods to rank objectively
  • Evaluate coverage problems and new service area requirements for coverage cells
  • Utilize propagation modeling software to develop frequency plans
  • Identifying causes of RF interference and troubleshooting interference problems with system performance
  • Attend and present at testimony at zoning hearings in support of new cell site proposals
  • Contribute in the development of long term build plans
  • Perform Macro/Micro Cell Design including antenna selection and placement
  • Utilize knowledge of CDMA, EVDO, LTE and microwave to contribute in network design

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Sciences required. Masters degree a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the cellular or telecommunications’ industry
  • Knowledge of InBuilding Repeater and DAS systems
  • Superior organizational and project planning skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; listening attentively; applying appropriate grammar; and integrating large volumes of information from multiple sources
  • Wireless data service including:  LTE, CDMA, CSD, STP, RF Fingerprinting
     Analog, CDMA, Flexent Modular cells (CDMA & PCS), RMT software, and 3G & 4G technologies
  • Excellent analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to perform with general guidance and a thorough understanding of the job and the department’s expectations and goals
  • Decision making skills (making appropriate use of available information and data; making sound decisions with minimal support from Manager; and being responsible for specific projects or definable portions of larger projects or processes)
  • Leadership skills  commitment to excellence, demonstrating company values and policies, initiating action, accepting responsibility for results, and making quality decisions
  • Flexible to attempt alternate solutions to resolve issues and seamlessly adjust to a dynamic, changing business environment
  • Work flexible hours and support night or weekend work as needed
  • Overnight travel may be required
  • Valid Driver’s license required
  • Programming background a plus
  • Proficient in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
