VP Sales and Alternate Channels

Job Description



As a member of the Senior Management team, provides strategic direction and leadership for the sales and alternate channels team in meeting company financial targets.  The sales organization is responsible for inbound telephone sales, as well as retention of Esurance customers.  The Alternate Channels group manages distribution of Esurance products through outside partners, affinity relationships, agencies, and outbound telephone sales.  Additionally responsible for all sales incentives, process, and support functions. 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads the sales group through a team of Directors and/or high level Managers across all locations to meet or exceed company written premium, policy and acquisition cost targets, with 500-600 personnel in five locations
  • Drives efficient and effective staffing and resource allocation, with a focus on constant improvements in conversion rate, cross sell, sales costs, and regulatory compliance
  • Develops and executes retention strategies in support of marketing goals
  • Continually develops new processes and techniques for increasing close rates and reducing expenses.
  • Manages new distribution channels for Esurance products;  Leads all aspects of agency distribution through partners; Ensures the company has new sources of business to grow each year
  • Provides guidance to product management on new product requirements and agent feedback
  • Leads the development of integrated marketing programs with third party agencies or lead generation services
  • Briefs Executive Management on the strategic direction and goals of the department as well as the actual performance against those goals
  • Participates in the establishment of department goals and for implementing procedures and performance standards to achieve these goals; Manages, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the activities of department staff directly or through subordinate leaders.
  • Manage assigned department budget and spending at or below plan.
  • Responsible for the employment, promotion, associate performance evaluation, training, motivation, counseling, and discipline of assigned associates

Job Requirements


  • Excellent Leadership skills including developing, motivating and leading a successful Sales organization.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, project management, as well as the abilitt  to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and within a collaborative team oriented environment using sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Strong working knowledge of agency laws and regulations, HR rules and compensation models
  • Strong marketing and sales skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field required. MBA preferred.
  • Ten or more years of successful senior management experience in sales and marketing
  • Financial services industry experience preferred
