Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to Starbucks success by providing transportation oversight on a day to day basis at each of the Regional Distribution Centers. This role is separate from (and does not replace) the Shipping and Receiving activities inherent in a 4-wall DC operation. The Transportation Analyst II role provides on-site escalation support, and includes carrier management, event support (including shutdowns, weather etc.), project management, analysis, and influencing skills to support the transportation team in developing innovative, cost-effective, and scalable systems that facilitate global growth and generate store and customer value. Success will be evident through improved Transportation efficiency and reduced escalation contacts to the SSC-based Transportation team. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
By RDC, responsibilities may include domestic and/or international carrier management as well as providing transportation service and cost management support.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
• Act as the Transportation Operations representative on-site at the DC. Also support inbound Transportation activities for the CDCs and Roasting Plants directly supported by the “home” RDC.
o Manage transportation providers to meet or exceed performance goals
o Reduce transportation costs by increasing load utilization through load planning in OTM or other TMS tool - includes identifying multi-stop opportunities for load consolidation
o Recommend transportation solutions outlining assumptions, analysis, and risks
o Develop transportation management processes to support business initiatives
o Implement transportation processes and foundational systems that improve service or efficiency, increase capacity, and reduce costs
o Track performance and identify improvement opportunities for shipments inbound to RDC/CDC and outbound from RDC
o Use targeted metrics to inform SSC-based Transportation team of KPIs for carrier performance, container utilization, and mode optimization
• Primary escalation support for DC staff for day-to-day operations. On an escalation basis:
o Ensure shipments are tendered by DC Shipping staff to carriers (through 3PL or direct tender through email) within lead time requirements. Reduce the impact of late tenders due to late cuts, and support resolution.
o Support DC Shipping staff to ensure trailer & container pools are sufficiently supplied and equipment rotated
o Resolve inbound appointment scheduling issues – ensure priority shipments receive timely appointments
o Maintain oversight of shipping documentation to ensure compliance to domestic and international industry standards
o Address cargo security issues with carriers, suppliers, and internal Partner & Asset Protection team to ensure the safe and timely unloading of freight
o Assist in the freight claims process with the coordination of relevant documentation and photos to support the submission of claims to carriers
