Recreation Therapist- PRN

Job Description


KVC Health Systems has entered into an agreement with Niles Home for Children, a residential and day school treatment center in Kansas City, Missouri. The partnership will bring behavioral healthcare best practices, high-quality support staff, and cutting-edge training to Niles and expand KVC Health Systems’ broad continuum of care with a unique short-term treatment facility for youth.

Due to this exciting expansion into Kansas City, MO we are currently seeking a PRN Recreation Therapist.

Recreation therapist will implement trauma-informed, therapeutic, recreational activities for the children and youth in receiving residential services. Therapist will perform assessments of the clients’ recreational needs and collaborate as an active member of the treatment team.

This is a non-exempt PRN position.

Staff members are expected to work with children and families, community partners and each other using KVC values of Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Open Honest Communication, Team Work and Continuous Improvement.  Additionally, staff members are expected to be a role model for children and families, be solutions focused and build upon their strengths.

Other duties may be assigned according to qualification of staff and development of programs.
• Functions as a member of the Treatment Team
• Maintains timely and accurate documentation
• Works with clients both individually and in groups
• Schedules and conducts therapeutic recreational activities
• Prepares treatment plans related to recreational needs
• Implements basic recreation program
• Preforms functional assessment of clients’ recreational needs
• Promotes community integration of clients
• Performs leisure counseling
• Maintains recreational supplies and equipment
• Completes activity analysis
• Writes clinical reports from a recreational perspective
• Consults with staff on recreational issues

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Health, Human Performance or related field from an accredited college or university.

Licensure/Certification: National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance

Limited experience is acceptable.
Preferred Experience/Skills: 
No less than six months to one year experience is preferred, as is previous experience working with children receiving mental health services.
