SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for the coordination of all technical activities on assigned projects and lead the team that is responsible for this work. He/she will plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate assigned engineering work, as well as act as the primary liaison with customer for resolution of technical matters and the development of products for customer projects by interpreting specifications and design requirements and developing those into an engineered solution. Will also assist / instruct Design Engineers with the checking of assembly drawings for accuracy of design intent and application specific information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Analyze product designs utilizing established tools and practices, interpret results and determine optimum solution to the customers’ problem. Prepare technical information for new projects to customers’ specifications. Develop close working relationships with key customers’ technical contacts, ensuring that business opportunities are recognized and responded to appropriately at an early stage. Significant customer interaction with respect to the engineering and management of projects, pre and post contract, for assigned accounts. Interpret designs, assist / instruct Designers, perform all engineering calculations, examine specifications, expedite and process engineering changes.
Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals Participating in client/contractor meetings and resolving client/engineering and management project issues Ensure effective liaison within the Engineering group to build and maintain consistently high engineering standards and to drive relevant product development Support engineering process development and design for manufacturability efforts through specific assignments as directed by engineering management Lead fluid film bearing training seminars at customer and/or internal sites as needed and be able to fine-tune the training to the specific needs of the audience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering plus a minimum of 4 years work experience in an engineered product environment for large complex systems applications and integrations (preferably in fluid film bearings, dampers, and/or seals used in high speed rotating equipment such as turbines / pumps / compressors / generators / motors or gearboxes) S
Strong understanding of Engineering Principles and Design Practices- DFE/ DFA / DFM / FEA Analysis, Thermal and Stress testing and Mil Spec Standards Demonstrated ability to create ideas and develop solutions -
Excellent problem solving skills Very strong communication skills – Ability to interface with customers
Familiarity with 3D CAD & strong computer skills.
The division presently uses Solidworks but will be moving to Autodesk Inventor as the companies standard platform.
Must be familiar with the impact of the manufacturing process on the key factors that control the form, fit, and function of a bearing
